Collect safe household items with varied textures: a soft cloth, a rough sponge, a smooth stone, a wool or yarn ball, sandpaper, a piece of faux fur. Put them in a box or cloth bag.

Have your child reach into the box (or close their eyes if the objects are laid out in front of them), feel each one, and describe it out loud: “soft,” “rough,” “cold,” “bumpy.” Afterward, ask them to sort the items into two groups: smooth versus rough, or things whose texture they like versus don't like.

This activity develops the sense of touch and builds a vocabulary of descriptive words, and strengthens logical sorting skill relying on a sense other than sight — valuable training for attention and focus.
