The «North Pole» sits at the very top of the Earth, made of a frozen ocean covered by thick layers of ice. The «South Pole» sits at the very bottom, on an entire continent called «Antarctica», covered in very thick ice.
Both poles are extremely cold because sunlight reaches them at a very slanted angle and doesn't warm the ground much. In some months, the sun disappears entirely for weeks, leaving darkness, while in other months it never sets at all.
The «polar bear» lives only at the North Pole, with thick white fur that keeps it warm and helps it blend in with the ice. The «penguin» lives mainly at the South Pole — it cannot fly, but it's an excellent swimmer.
