Salman was born into a wealthy family in Persia, deeply loved by his father, yet he was never convinced by his people's fire-worshipping religion. Hearing one day of followers of another faith who impressed him greatly, he secretly left home in search of the truth, knowing full well how much this would upset his father.

Salman moved between several righteous monks to learn from them, and each one, before passing away, would send him on to another wiser monk in a distant land. The last of them told him that the time of a new prophet was near, one who would appear in the land of Arabia, and gave him signs to recognize him by. But along the way, Salman fell victim to deceit and was sold into slavery to a Jewish trader in Madinah.

When Salman heard that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had arrived in Madinah, he verified the signs his old teacher had described and believed at once. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions helped free him from slavery after his long years of waiting, and Salman later became one of the closest companions to the Prophet ﷺ, famous for suggesting the idea of digging a defensive trench that saved Madinah in one of its hardest battles — his story remains a symbol for anyone who keeps searching for truth, no matter how long the road.
