Baby kangaroo Kangoor stayed a long time inside his mother’s warm pouch, watching the world safely from there. When he grew a little older, his mother told him, «It’s time for you to jump on your own, Kangoor», but he was afraid and clung to the edge of the pouch, refusing to come out.

He tried once, jumping a short, hesitant hop, and fell to the ground, and a few nearby young animals laughed. Kangoor rushed back into his mother’s pouch crying and said, «I won’t try again, I’m just not good at jumping like the others».

His mother hugged him and said, «Every great kangaroo in this valley fell many times before learning to jump high, little one. Falling isn’t failure, it’s part of the very path». The next day, his mother encouraged him to try again away from watching eyes, and he made one small jump, then another a little longer.

Kangoor kept practicing every day without comparing himself to anyone, until after a few weeks he was jumping confidently among the rocks, and even began teaching the newest baby kangaroos how to overcome their fear of the first jump, just as his mother had once done for him.
