Little owl Sana felt sad every morning, watching the sparrows wake with the first thread of sunlight and sing with joy, while she was tired and wanted only to sleep. She wished she could change her nature and become like them.
One day she asked her mother, «Why was I made to wake at night, mother? I feel so different from everyone else». Her mother smiled and said, «Wait, little one, and soon you’ll understand why every bird was made just as it is».
One night, Sana heard a little mouse who had lost his way back to his burrow, frightened of the dark. Thanks to her strong night vision, Sana could see the path clearly, and quietly walked with him until he reached home safely, while every other bird slept, unaware of what was happening.
The little mouse thanked her warmly, saying, «Without your eyes in the dark, I would have been lost all night». Sana returned to her nest proud, realizing that being different from the sparrows was not a flaw, but a gift the forest needed every night. From that night on, Sana loved her own quiet hours, and became the trusted guardian of the forest after dark.
