A rainforest is a densely-treed area that gets very heavy rainfall throughout the year, making it constantly warm and humid. Rainforests cover a relatively small part of Earth's surface, yet they are home to more than half of the world's plant and animal species.
The largest rainforest in the world is the «Amazon Rainforest» in South America, sometimes called the «lungs of the Earth» because its dense trees produce a huge amount of the oxygen humans need to breathe.
Amazing animals live in rainforests, like monkeys, colorful parrots, tiny poisonous frogs, and spotted jaguars. Rainforests are made of several layers, from the shaded forest floor up to the tall treetops where sunlight reaches directly.
