Lama got a new bicycle for her birthday and was very excited to learn how to ride it. On her first try, she got on the bike but lost her balance and fell, scraping her knee a little.
Lama cried from the pain and told her father, I will never ride this bicycle again, it's too hard. Her father hugged her gently and said, Everyone who learns to ride a bike falls at first. Falling isn't failure, it's part of learning.
The next day, Lama came back and tried again. She fell a second time, then a third. She felt discouraged, but she remembered her father's words, wiped her tears, and stood up again.
Lama kept trying every day after school, and her father walked beside her, encouraging her, holding the seat for a moment and then letting go. In the second week, Lama suddenly felt herself balancing on her own, and the bicycle began moving steadily without falling.
Lama shouted with joy, I'm riding the bike by myself! She ran to her father and hugged him, saying, If I had given up the first time, I would never have felt this happy now.
The Lesson: Perseverance and trying again despite failure are the secret to learning anything new.
