In a wide plain full of green grass lived a beautiful deer named Salma, known for her remarkable speed. She always dreamed of winning the great running race held every spring among the plain's animals.
On the long-awaited race day, Salma sped off with all her strength, ahead of everyone, feeling proud as she watched the finish line draw closer and closer.
Suddenly, she heard the whimper of a small gazelle who had fallen into a hole beside the track and hurt his leg, calling for help that no one heard because everyone was busy with the race.
Salma stopped running even though she was in the lead, and turned back to help the little gazelle. She gently lifted him out of the hole and helped him stand, then walked slowly beside him until they reached the finish line together, long after everyone else had passed.
When the plain's animals learned what Salma had done, they cheered for her more warmly than for the winner, and the eldest animal told her, 'Today you won something more precious than the race — you won all our hearts.' Salma learned that helping others is far more beautiful than any victory.
The Lesson: Helping others, even at the cost of winning, is more precious than any victory.
